Taiwan is renowned for its invention of the popular drink; boba tea (also known as bubble tea). Boba tea's main ingredient is the tapioca pearl, place in a cup of milk tea. In the modern age, boba tea has changed form, with thousands of new toppings being added, variations to the tea and the drink. However, not all boba tea has been created equal. It is the mission of Boba Taiwan to discover the true meaning of boba and what real boba tea tastes like.

How does our rating system work? Boba Taiwan ranks the boba tea and boba shop presents by two factors; the quality of the bubble tea (QB), and the quality of the shop (QS). More information can be found on the Point System page.

At the end of the year, the top five boba stores with the highest Boba Taiwan Grading will be given the Boba Taiwan Star (BTS), also known as the "Pearl". This is the highest honor given to any boba store, and every bubble tea shop with a BTS is worth giving a try.

 

The point system is called the Boba Taiwan Point System (BTPS) which was created by Samuel Teoh, an avid bubble tea lover, on October 10, 2023. We, at Boba Taiwan, have high standards for the perfect bubble tea, and here, in the heart of the boba tea nation, we are on a mission to find it.
